Welcome!

If you are here to explore working with a Spiritual Director, you may well be in the right place. Explore the site -- go to the GETTING STARTED (FAQ) page where many of your questions may already be answered; read the blog and listen to how you feel; follow some of the links to learn more; find out a little something about my background. If you'd like to contact me -- either to set up an appointment or ask a questions, there's a contact form on the right side of each page that you can use to MAKE A CONNECTION.

Most simply, though, the spirit of my practice can be summed up in these words (adapted from Robert Mabry Doss): For those who come here seeking God ... may God go with you. For those who come embracing life ... may life return your affection. And for those who come to seek a path ... may a way be found, and the courage to take it step by step.

Publications

Wik writes regularly on his blog: A Minister's Musings.

Most recently he has served as editor (and contributor) to a new anthology on spiritual practices:

Faithful Practices:  everyday ways to feed your spirit
"An eclectic mix of contributors share their reflections about spiritual practices in their everyday lives. Each of them describes their practice and the ways it opens them up to their hearts and souls. From chopping vegetables to creatively arranging action figures, from taking long walks to playing roller derby, these practices demonstrate the wide range of ways that we can be spiritual, and provide models for those seeking a practice of their own."

In addition, he has published three books with Skinner House Books, all of which are available both through the Unitarian Universalist Association Bookstore and Amazon.com.

Simply Pray: a modern spiritual practice to deepen your life
"The practice of prayer appeals to something deep within many of us, especially those of us who grew up reciting Catholic prayers on a rosary, or those of us fascinated by the mala beads carried by Buddhist practitioners.  But what if our journey has taken a path different from the traditional religions and the often moving rituals they provide.  How, and why, should we pray?  In Simply Pray, Erik Walker Wikstrom reveals the universal qualities of prayer, and offers a way to incorporate this spiritual practice into your personal journey."

Teacher, Guide, Companion:  rediscovering Jesus in a secular world
"Drawing from the personal experiences of a seasoned pastor, the scholarship of the liberal Jesus Seminar, and the gospel accounts of the life of Jesus, Teacher, Guide, Companion challenges readers to reexamine their own relationship with Jesus Christ and its significance in the 21st century.  Integrating both secular and religious source materials, Wikstrom demonstrates how a close examination of historical findings and the Gospels can lead to a renewed faith in Jesus Christ.  The field of Jesus study, which is widely dominated by academics, will benefit from this analysis by a working minister."

Serving With Grace:  lay leadership as a spiritual practice
"Discover how to experience congregational work as an integrated element in a fully rounded spiritual life.  Written for both those in the more typically recognized "leadership roles" -- such as Board members and committee chairs -- as well as for those who lead while serving on a committee, teaching in religious education, or helping pull together the Holiday Fair.  Makes a useful addition to a congregation's leadership development programs."

His writing has also been included in two anthologies, again, published by Skinner House Books and available both through the Unitarian Universalist Association Bookstore and Amazon.com:

"Fifteen personal stories from laity and clergy alike show what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist Christian today.  These men and women arrive at their faith by many paths -- influenced by the Bible, Jesus Christ Superstar, and even the Bernstein Mass.  Here is a fresh and much-needed look at UU Christians, who, for decades, have kept the work and spirit of Christianity alive in our liberal religion."  (From the Foreword by Carl Scovel.)

"Have you wondered how to integrate your heartfelt beliefs into your daily life?  Here nearly 40 contributors ponder this creative dilemma and share their discoveries.  Creating a home altar, practicing martial arts, fasting, quilting -- these are just some of the ways they've found to make every day more meaningful and satisfying."
